Caffeine
Caffeine is a psychoactive substance and it is the most commonly used drug in the world. Caffeine is derived naturally from over 60 different plant sources, which includes coffee beans, tea leaves, cacao seeds and cola nuts. Caffeine is also added in certain other products such as soda, energy drinks, some prescription or nonprescription drugs as counter cold medication and weight loss aids.
Caffeine acts as a stimulant by activating the central nervous system and it also functions as diuretics. Caffeine can cause the heart to beat faster and quicken the effects of cold temperature on the body. It can counteract tiredness and improves concentration and focus.
Moderate intake of caffeine provides several health benefits, including lower risk of certain cancers, brain conditions and liver problems. However, ingesting caffeine in high doses leads to several harmful effects on health such as restlessness, sleeping problems, anxiety and tremors.
