Cessation of menstruation
When menstruation stops due to some medical reasons or results in menopause due to increased age, it is referred to as cessation of menstruation. Menopause is the time when women stop having menstrual cycles. Menopause is associated with the absence of 12 months of menstrual period. Menopause is a natural, biological process. It happens during the age of late 40s or early 50s.
Perimenopause is the onset of it, menstrual periods become irregular, a woman may skip one or more periods, menstrual flow also becomes heavier or lighter and experience of hot flashes increases. Complications seen with menopause are that women get diagnosed with anxiety disorders, depression, headache, migraine, sudden mood changes, cataracts, heart diseases and weaker bones with reduced mass or strength.
Menopause leads to loss of ovarian follicles reducing or stopping chances of pregnancy or fertility. Menopause may be also the result of surgical removal of the ovaries or causes by injury. Cancer chemotherapy or radiation therapy can also lead to induce menopause.
