Clinician
Anyone who performs or offers the intervention of some sort, to enhance, manage and restore health is called a clinician. In the arena of mental health, particularly in India, there are three types of mental health professionals we widely talk about, or include under the umbrella term Clinician. They are Psychiatrist, Psychotherapist and psychologist. They perform their jobs in different area in upholding and enhancing mental health. A psychiatrist is a physician with specialization in psychiatry. Capable of prescribing and administering necessary drugs for regulation and maintenance of mental health, they are entitled to prescribe different medicines. A psychotherapist is essentially a clinical psychologist with the license to conduct different therapies which are essential to cause effective intervention during the course of a mental disorder. And, a psychologist is a person with a master degree in psychology, who can provide counselling to a person who is undergoing stress, can help in the process of decision making and advice accordingly.
