Empathy
The word empathy is the ability to emotionally connect and understand what other people feel, perceive things from their point of view, and put oneself in their place. Or to put it in a simpler way, an act of empathy refers to putting oneself in someone else's position and understanding what they must be feeling. Empathy is very different from sympathy. For a therapist to conduct a successful therapy, it is absolutely necessary that they are able to connect to the feelings, believes and attitude of the client. Therefore, empathy is an important virtue which he or she should be having, in order to conduct a therapy. Empathy can be practised and learned over the time by a person.
