Escapist tendencies
According to Freud, some amount of escapist fantasy is a necessary element in the process of human existence. Although the later psychologists have stressed upon the role of vicarious distractions in the process of shifting unwanted moods, that can include anger and sadness.
When a person is not able to face a situation, he or she might want to escape it in some way or the other. There are several ways in which a person might want to run away from a situation. This includes conversion or hysteria to the use of reaction formation as a defense mechanism. Several people tries to escape a situation simply because of their personality traits or characteristics, which may be independent of the situation.
