Flashbacks
When an individual is met with a tragic or traumatic situation, he or she reacts to the experience with fear and helplessness, constantly relives the event, and tries to avoid being reminded of it. The event can sometimes be relived in dreams and waking thoughts, this are known as flashbacks. They can result from experiences in war, rape, torture, natural catastrophes, assault,and serious accident. Persons reexperience the traumatic event in their dreams as well as daily thoughts; they sometimes undergo a numbing of responsiveness besides experiencing a state of hyperarousal. Leading to postraumatic stress disorder, depression, anxiety, and cognitive difficulties which includes poor attention, concentration and likes.
Posttraumatic situations is typically understood by increased stress and anxiety after exposure of a person to a traumatic or stressful event. Traumatic or stressful events can include but is not limited to being a witness to or being involved in a crime, kidnap, military combat, or assault, being involved in a natural disaster, being diagnosed with a life-threatening illness, or experiencing systematic physical or sexual abuse or rape.
