Hierarchy
Hierarchy refers to placement of one thing over the other in an increasing or decreasing order. In the realm of social psychology, hierarchy refers to something similar. As per Sir Abraham Maslow, human beings are motivated by their needs. Then comes the question, how does this motivation works? As per Maslow, The needs at one level must be at least partially satisfied before those at the next level become important motivators of action. The lowest level needs are the physiological needs, or those needs which are necessary for the survival of an individual. Followed by the need for safety, need to belong, need for esteem, human reach the highest motive. The highest motive of an individual is self-actualization, which can be fulfilled only after all other needs have been satisfied. Thus to put it another way, the needs that are lowly placed in the need hierarchy must be at least partially satisfied before needs that are higher in the hierarchy become important sources of motivation.
