Hormonal Variation
Hormonal variation refers to the change in the level in the blood, that causes different types of behavioural manifestation. Hormones are the chemical messenger of the endocrine system, secreted by the endocrine glands. There are several important hormones released by different endocrine glands, they have separate function and several binding site. Some of the important glands and their hormones are being listed below:
- Pituitary Gland: Called the master gland, releases Follicle Stimulating Hormone, Growth Hormone, Thyroid Stimulating Hormone, Oxytocin, Prolactin, Adenocortico Tropic Hormone, the hormones from pituitary glands controls most of the endocrine glands.
- Thyroid gland: T3 (Thyroxine) and T4
- Adrenal gland: Adrenaline (Epinephrine) and Noradrenaline (Norepinephrine). The variation in their level prepares body for fight or flight.
- Pancreas (it is an exoendocrine gland): Insulin and Glucagon, alteration causes variation in blood glucose level.
- Androgen: testosterone, Oestrogen and Progesterone, regulates the sexual behaviour and other factors related to reproduction, etc.
