Interpersonal effectiveness
There are variety of way in which things are related to one other. The word inter relationship describes the way in which two or more things are related to one another. In other words the relationship between two or more things is referred to as inter relationship. While taking about human relationship, there are several dimensions of the word relationship, therefore, for easy understanding if we take the example of relationship, between two human beings or two individuals, we should understand here that humans are social animals and relationship among them serves an important function in forming a social network, which provides security and satisfies people’s need to belong to a social group (Baumeister & Bushman, 2008). this need of the relationship, determine the quality and durability of inter relationship. Interpersonal attraction, which is the reason of formation of all relationships among human beings is the attraction between people which leads to group formation, friendships and romantic relationship.
Interpersonal effectiveness
Interpersonal effectiveness, basically refers to one’s ability to interact with others. It includes skills that is put to use by a person (Vivyan, 2015), this can include:
- Attending to relationships
- Keeping a balance in priorities versus demands
- Balancing out the “wants” and the “shoulds”
- Building up a sense of mastery and self-respect
The ability to interact with relevant others might be influenced by the goal we have during the time of our interactions. There are broadly three main goals to interaction, this might include:
- Gaining our own objective
- Maintaining the important relationships
- Keeping our self-respect intact
Each of these goal requires interpersonal skills; While there are certain interpersonal skills that will be applied in several similar situations, some skills might appear to be especially important for achievement of any one of these goals.
While working in the direction of gaining our objective, we require skills that comprises of clarifying what we want from the interaction we are engaging in, and identifying of the need, in order to achieve the results required.
