Micro sleeps
Micro sleep is a momentary lapse in concentration. It will usually last for three to 10 seconds, it is believed to happen when parts of the brain fall asleep for a while. The eyelid may be either partially open or closed. People who experience micro sleep may doze off without realizing it. During a micro sleep people lose perception to the outside world and be blind to the present situation and surroundings. In micro sleep people lose visual perception and motor control, they do not respond to any information passed to them, unable to remember the last one or two minutes and experience sudden body jerks. Sleep deprivation is a major cause of a micro sleep. This can happen to people with insomnia,
who work in night shifts or to people with other sleep disorders.
Regardless of wherever a person works, micro sleep and exhaustion results in poor performance and decreased productivity in work. Drivers experience episodes of micro sleep while driving during late nights, this is one of the most common causes of road accidents.
