Misophonia
Misophonia also known as sound rage is a neurological condition that causes certain sounds to trigger moderate to severe emotional responses. Such as anxiety, stress or anger.
There are triggering sounds that cause fight-or-flight response in people with Misophonia. The initial trigger sound typically is any oral sound from parents or any other family member, new triggers arise over time. The most common sounds that trigger people with misophonia are: chomping, burping, slurping, whispering, sniffing, throat clearing, sipping, scraping, nails tapping, jaw clicking, throat clearing, snoring, sneezing, clock’s ticking etc.
Misophonia is a sudden irritative feeling, it's like a tsunami of negative feelings in a person taking over most of the cognitive functioning. And it is an uncontrollable response.
The exact causes of misophonia are not known but people who have conditions of OCD, anxiety disorders, Tourette syndrome are observed to experience higher occurrences of misophonia.
Misophonia can even cause outburst of violence, either to other people or to yourself.
