Monogamy
Monogamy is a form of relationship when an individual has only one partner at a time, rather than multiple partners. A monogamous relationship can be physical or emotional, but it’s usually both.
In this modern age many relationships are monogamous. But even if people want to be with just one partner, many people have trouble staying monogamous. This may lead to disloyalty, segregation, breakups, and divorce.
Research on animals have shown that particular genes may be linked to monogamous behaviors. This could mean humans have developed to prefer monogamy, seeking out one partner with whom they can share most of their lifetime.
It is seen that monogamy does not work from the beginning of a relationship. Other times, it takes a long time to understand the issue. Below are the problems of monogamy:
- One partner wants to explore other or multiple relationships
- One partner hasn’t been faithful
- The couple doesn’t agree on boundaries
- One or both partners can feel that they’re trapped
