Neurological damage
Neurological damage refers to any harm caused to the nervous system. The brain, spinal cord, and nerves are major constitute of the nervous system, which control all function of the body. Thus, when something is not functioning well in the nervous system, one can have trouble moving, speaking, swallowing, breathing, or learning. One can also have problems with senses, memory, or mood. There are over 600 neurologic diseases.
Major types of include:
- Diseases can be caused by faulty genes, like Huntington's disease and muscular dystrophy
- Problems can arise with the development of the nervous system, such as spina bifida
- Degenerative diseases, like the Parkinson's disease and Alzheimer's disease
- Diseases related to the blood vessels that supply oxygen to the brain, such as stroke
- External injuries to the spinal cord and brain
- Seizure disorders, like in epilepsy
- Cancer, brain tumors etc
- Infections leading to the occurrence of meningitis
