Physiology
Physiology, refers to the study of the functioning of living organisms, animal or plant, and including their functioning in terms of constituent tissues or cells. The word physiology was coined by the Greeks around 600 BCE. In the 19th century, with the increase in curiosity, advent of medical necessity, and economic interest the research concerning the physiology of all living organisms was stimulated. Ground breaking discoveries of unity of structure and functions that were common to all living things resulted in the growth of the concept of general physiology, which aimed at finding a general principles and concepts applicable to all living things. Since the mid-19th century, therefore, the stream of physiology has implied in the process of utilization of experimental methods, as well as techniques and concepts of the physical sciences, whose objective is to investigate causes and mechanisms of the activities and behaviours of all living things.
