Picking
The picking disorder or the skin picking disorder has been termed as the Excoriation Disorder in the DSM 5. there are certain characteristics exhibited by the individuals who receives this diagnosis, it includes the following:
A. The individual display recurrent skin picking, which results in skin lesions.
B. The individual also makes repeated attempts to reduce or stop skin picking.
C. The skin picking is found to cause clinically significant distress or/and significant impairment in social, occupational, or other important areas of functioning.
D. The skin picking is not better explained by physiological effects of a substance or any medical condition.
E. The skin picking is an exhibition of symptoms of any other mental disorder (e.g.,delusions or tactile hallucinations present in a patient with psychotic disorder, in an attempts to improve a perceived defect or flaw in appearance of the body, in body dysmorphic disorder, stereotypes in stereotypical movement disorder).
