Receptive language
The terminology receptive language refers to how a child or infant understands and interpret language.
Young children with language learning difficulty show poor eye contact, difficulty in interacting with other children, a very limited vocabulary, finds difficulty in following simple directions, finds difficulty in communicating wants and needs.
Preschool-aged children with language difficulties might re-narrating stories at four years of age, in using the right words , in producing new/novel sentences they are likely to repeat words or phrases from movies, T.V. shows, etc., to communicate with others, answering basic questions about themselves, difficulty in interacting with peers.
School-aged children who have difficulty with language uses incorrect grammar, fails to put words in the correct order for articulating questions and sentences, they find it difficult to answer “wh” questions. They might also have difficulty in completing academic tasks like sequencing stories memorizing facts, and comprehending the verbal information.
