Self concept
As child grow up, a vital step in attainment of growth is their realization that they are separate entity and not a mere part of their parents. Research have found out that before the age of eight, children lack the ability to formulate a clear, separate sense of self, except for the one that has been transmitted to them by their primary caregivers. As they grow up with the realization of agency they possess as individual, they start making independent movements and begin with experimentation of their behaviour. With the passage of time, they begin to develop the concept of self, partly based on the feedback they receive from their parents and partly by other socially relevant individuals around them. Soon the develop understanding of their social standing which further enhances their self concept formation. The self concept so formed is thereon undergoes steady changes through the lifetime.
