Self growth
As per Clayton Alderfer, there are three needs which motivates human beings. The existence need, the relatedness needs and the growth needs. The growth needs , according to Maslow is the highest order need. Alderfer puts equal importance to all the three needs. Going with Maslow, upon achieving the lower order needs, like physiological needs, security needs, need for belongingness and esteem, human thrive to attain the maximum expression of their capabilities or attempts towards self growth. Maximum utilization of one’s potential ensures that the generativity is maintained and the person has a goal everyday as he or she wakes up. Self growth thus refers to the investment a person does to make oneself better. Self growth contributes to well being, since being in the process of growth besides being motivating is also very satisfying. Therefore, we should always invest in the process of growth and avoid stagnancy.
