Shame
Shame is a feeling or thought of being bad, unworthy or wrong. It is a powerful emotion which can become a potential reason to feel unacceptable, or defective, and it may not be associated with a specific event or behaviour.
Feelings of shame may affect deeply on someone’s psychological adjustment, it involves a negative feelings about oneself and although an individual can be shamed by fellow mates or society in general, shame can also be experienced secretly. Feelings of shame often go unnoticed and people rarely share their feelings or experience of shame.
Shame is a painful emotion because aside the behaviour one's core self is the issue. Living with shame can be difficult, lonely and a demoralizing experience. Unresolved feelings of shame can be mentally destructive and leads to depression, anxiety and low self esteem. Such people resolve to self harm, substance addiction and irritative behaviour.
