Social cognition
Social cognition is the ability of human beings to think about and understand others. It is a sub-topic of a study about how people's thought and behaviour are influenced by the presence of others. It focuses on the process that plays an important role in human social interaction. Social cognition helps to form theories which suggests that we have mental representations of different social situations.
Social cognition develops in childhood. As kids grow, they become aware about feelings, they don’t only think about their own emotions but also think and understand the feelings and mental states of others. With growing age people accomplish the understanding of how others feel, they learn how to respond in social situations, engage themselves in social behaviours and take the perspective of others. Social cognition helps people to read the faces of other people and enables them to understand about the contents of their minds.
