Vicious circle
Vicious circle refers to a chain of events in which the response to one difficult situation creates a new problem that aggravates the original difficulty, also called vicious cycle. Vicious circle, the phenomena was originally referred to a circular argument, which is in other words, an argument that takes into account the conclusion as one of its premises. The phenomena was first seen and documented around the end of the 18th century. Approximately, around 50 years later, vicious circle acquired the recent meaning of the word, that the more common "chain of events" sense as people began to understand and think of the circle as a metaphorical circle rather than a circular argument. Today, vicious cycle is taken as a common variant for the "chain of events" sense. Vicious spiral, where the ill effects are cumulative as well as self-aggravating, puts in an occasional appearance as well.
