Volitional Control
Volition is referred to acting as a result of a decision or choice, indicating our control on it. Volition is studied from two perspectives. From onlookers view, volitional behaviour is generated internally, rather than being determined by the immediate environmental context, hence, to some extent, unpredictable. Such behaviour is not restricted to humans, since it is seen in many other species including. From another perspective, one’s experience of volitional behaviour comprises a vivid sense of agency. One feels, through our intentions, one can make things happen and one can choose between different actions. But the experience of agency is not direct. It is dependent on sub-personal inferences which is derived from prior expectations and sensations associated with movement. Which results in, one experience and intuitions about volition can be therefore sometimes be unreliable and uncertain. Nevertheless, people experience of agency is not a mere epiphenomenon to them.
