Authentic encounter
The word authentic encounter or encounter killing is predominantly used in Asian countries like India, Sri Lanka and Pakistan since the late 20th century. The word describes the extrajudicial killings, these acts are generally committed by the police or the armed forces, authentically to be done only in self-defence, when they come across suspected gangsters or terrorists. The Mumbai Police used encounter killings to attack the city's underworld, and the practice spread to other large cities in the 1990s and the mid-2000s. However not all encounters are authentic ones. In Pakistan, the Sindh Police have been known to commit some of the notorious act for extrajudicial killings, which is predominantly done through fake encounters, occurring especially in Karachi.
