Confrontation
In the practice of Gestalt Therapy, the word confrontation indicates ‘to challenge or frustrate the client’. The patient here is challenged with empathy as well as sensitivity on the part of the therapist to face the issues that are important to them. It is an invaluable tool for awakening clients into clear awareness of their realities, when employ perfectly. Although, confrontation is not a technique which can be applied with all patients. Gestalt therapy does not look forward to a “goal-oriented” methodology. The six methodological components are considered vital to Gestalt therapy are: (i) the continuum of experience, (ii) the here and now, (iii) the paradoxical theory of change, (iv) the experiment, (v) the authentic encounter, and (vi) process-oriented diagnosis.
