Gratitude
Gratitude had been conceptualized as an emotion, an attitude, a personality trait, a moral emotion, an attitude, a personality trait, a moral virtue, a habit or a coping response. The word originated from a Latin word gratia which means with grace, graciousness or gratefulness. Prototypically, gratitude stems from the perception of positive personal outcome, not necessarily derived or earned, that is due to the action of another person. The personal commitment to invest one’s psychic energy onto gratitude laden positive frame is expected to bring maximal psychological functioning. Gratitude is an affective component of human behaviour. Rosenberg proposed an hierarchical format to clarify the structural components of gratitude as effective traits, moods and emotions. The concept of gratitude is not new, it had a long past journey. Carman and Streng (1989) showed that gratitude existed as highly valued human virtue in Jewish, Christians, Muslims, Buddhists and thoughts of Hinduism.
