Hormones
Endocrine system like all other organ system of the human body is an important system of the body that without ducts. The speciality about the endocrine glands are this that they are ductless and communicate through hormones. Hormones are the chemical messenger of the endocrine system, secreted by the endocrine glands. They are directly released in the blood by the glands and acts only upon reaching their site of binding. There are several important hormones released by different endocrine glands, they have separate function and several binding site. Some of the important glands and their hormones are being listed below:
- Pituitary Gland: Called the master gland, releases Follicle Stimulating Hormone, Growth Hormone, Thyroid Stimulating Hormone, Oxytocin, Prolactin, Adenocortico Tropic Hormone
- Thyroid gland: T3 (Thyroxine) and T4
- Adrenal gland: Adrenaline (Epinephrine) and Noradrenaline (Norepinephrine)
- Pancreas (it is an exoendocrine gland): Insulin and Glucagon
- Testis: testosterone
- Ovary: Oestrogen and Progesterone
- Pineal gland: Melatonin
