Maladaptive
Maladaptive behaviour is a type of behaviour in which a person can not adjust with a particular situation.
Maladaptive behaviour is mainly developed for neglecting stress and anxiety. It feels out of control and painful to deal with the stressors and this Maladaptive behaviour helps people find a way to escape reality and it becomes a self destructive pattern.
Types of maladaptive behaviour :
- Passive aggressiveness - A person will not speak or discuss things that are disturbing them rather they express their anger or negative feelings indirectly.
- Avoidance - Any kind of unpleasant situation is avoided by a maladaptive person. Like avoiding eye contact, not asking questions for more information.
- Withdrawal - Withdrawal is a process of avoiding or leaving some situations or some particular place or person to overcome anxiety and tension.
- Self injury - It means giving harm to themselves. For example, cutting or biting body parts, hitting on walls, pulling out hair etc.
Maladaptive people end up missing out on things they used to enjoy.
