Opiates
Opiates are narcotic substances that are poured out from opium, it is a chemical that naturally grows in poppy seeds and plants.
These drugs, which are medically used to treat mild to severe pain in patients, are also known as “opioid painkillers.” Because of their excitedly calming effects, opioid painkillers have very high rates of abuse, in many cases, it can lead to addiction.
Opiates work by binding to specific receptors in the brain and affecting powerful reward in it, mimicking the effects of pain relieving. In addition to relieving pain, opiates develop euphoric and tranquil effects when people take it larger amounts than prescribed, and they experience care-free feelings. These drugs often lead to destructive patterns of abuse.
Problems that occur due to overdose of opiates are:
- Unconsciousness
- Constricted pupils
- Frequent vomiting
- Shallow or restricted breathing
- Nausea
- Cool or clammy skin
- Extreme sleepiness or inability to wake up.
