Perfectionism
Perfectionism refers to setting an excessively high personal standard. It is a characteristic which makes life look like an accomplishment or report card.
Sometimes perfectionism is healthy and works as self motivation to achieve success, while perfectionism also endures unhappiness, when it is unhealthy.
Perfectionism becomes toxic when it is extreme. Many people desire success but mostly they avoid failure, this leads to procrastination and in turn delay of work. People with extreme perfectionism don’t believe in unconditional love and rely on others' affection and expect them to perform flawlessly.
The causes of perfectionism are unclear. Mostly people learn it by seeing others. Perfectionist people consider themselves valuable only because of what they do for others or what they have achieved.
Signs of perfectionist people:
- Quickly find fault and critical about mistakes
- Excessive expectations for compliments.
- Forget to celebrate success.
- Postpone a project out of their fear of failure.
