Post conception
When a zygote attaches to the wall of the uterus of the mother, a conception or implantation is said to occur, which marks the beginning of the pregnancy. The period that begins right from the day of implantation and continues until the parturition or the delivery of the child, is termed as the post conception period. The zygote goes through a number of stages of development. These stages are called the prenatal stages of development. The stages include the embryonic stage, the germinal stage and the fetal stage. During the time of conception, as the sperm and the ova fuse, a single cell or zygote is formed. This zygote divides repetitively to form morula, blastocyst and then attaches itself to the uterus and continues gradual development, starting with the internal organs like the heart and terminating with finer details like separation of the eye lid before the parturition.
