Sedative
Sedative is a type of prescription drug, which acts as Central Nervous System depressants. Sedatives slow down human brain activity and are typically used to make people feel relaxed. Sedatives modify some nerves that communicate in the central nervous system of the human brain. Specifically, it causes neurotransmitters to work overtime, slowing down the brain.
They are often prescribed to treat conditions like sleep disorders, panic disorders and anxiety. It is also used as anesthetics. Additional continued use can lead to dependence on the drug, the body will develop tolerance and larger doses will be required to gain the same initial effect. Sedatives taken in large dosage increases the risk of undesirable harmful side effects.
People often become dependent on sedative beyond their control. Due to the addictive nature of the drugs, sedatives are a controlled substance and are highly regulated in many countries.
