Self preoccupation
To be self preoccupied refers to the condition when some thoughts or ideas about oneself is much active in one’s consciousness or working memory that he or she is not able to devote the attention which the momentary situation relevant demands, resulting in inappropriate response to the stimulus presented. A person can be self preoccupied because of a plenty reasons. The reasons can range from mere thoughts about a different situation to a disordered thought pattern where an individual is more or less always preoccupied with thoughts that are not of derivative of true rational or logical sense.
When a person with preoccupied with thoughts about self, it is termed as narcissism. At pathological level, it affects quality of work or productivity considerably, resulting them in failing certain, personal, occupational and functional areas. This type of severe impairment requires clinical attention and earliest intervention to ensure mental health.
