Slurred speech
Slurred speech is when people have trouble speaking, words come out slow and run together. Poor pronunciation of words, mumbling or changing rhythm during conversation is also referred as Slurred speech. In medical terms slurred speech is known as Dysarthria. This condition may develop slowly over time or may be influenced by a single incident. Slurred speech can be temporary or permanent, it depends on the causes of condition.
For proper speech It is important to have normal functioning of the brain, tongue, mouth and vocal cords. If any of these organs is not working properly, it may lead to slurred speech. Common reasons that lead to slurred speech are drug abuse, alcohol, brain injury and strokes.
Because of the slurred speech people may face many complications in life. Speech problems may affect people’s relationship with family, friends. It makes social life difficult. Slurred speech can even lead to depression.
