Stress
Stress can be referred to experiencing events that are often perceived as endangering a person’s physical as well as psychological well-being. The events which causes stress are usually referred to as stressors, and the reaction that people elicit to them are termed stress responses. Traumatic events on the other hand are events outside the normal range of people’s experience which are highly distressing. Traumas such as rape, sexual abuse, child molestation can lead to a wide range of emotional as well as physical problems. The capability of controlling a situation also affects how stressful it is. The perceptions of controllability is as important as the actual controllability of a certain situation. Unpredictable events are usually perceived as stressful. Some researchers purports that most of the major life changes can be stressful. Internal conflicts like the unresolved issues that may be conscious or unconscious is capable of causing stress response.
